Design Wall Monday!! March 22 '10

Today I have pics!! Batteries are re-charged and good to go, and they helped me take these two pictures of things to get done this week!!

The first is my BOM - yup, more browns!! I should of had this done as soon as I got it, but I didn't - so it's up to be done this week.

And the next is my Lone Star blk. It is going to
be done this week. Kinda thought by Thursday
would be nice, but I don't think it will happen. Simply because I won't have the time. By 'done', I mean, completed!!
I am thinking of making it into a wall hanging......

And I also have the border to put on my blue
blocks. They are all sewn together, now it's time
to have it bordered and out the door.
These are my three projects, plus, working on
my Christmas quilt blocks - Piece and Goodwill.

And I also have the backing for my Christmas Lights to get to my quilter.

And working. Don't forget working!!!

I should stop now, before more project ideas pop into my head!!! Goals are a good thing - and this week, I have a few that I want to see crossed off my list!!! Lovin' it!!! Have a great week!!

Design Wall Monday!!

Okay, I am still working on the border of the Goose quilt. Here is a pic of it laying on my bed while I was trying to get measurements. I did not know the cat was in the house, and when I came back to measure, look what I found!!
I had to take a picture! I have tried to keep the dogs (and their fur!!) out of my room, and I have been so careful to keep them away from my stuff!! lol!! yeah, that worked out well didn't it!! I mean, it was only on my bed a few minutes when he came and streched himself out on it...

So, I do have the red border on, and one of the side pieced borders - and the rest ready to be put on. The one I have not figured out yet, is the last 5" border and binding.... but I will. this one is almost a done top!!

This weeks project is to put borders on my Dissappearing 9 Patch.
And this is one of the quilts I found in one of the books I was looking through the other night. I like it. And I found myself starting to look for browns (something I don't really have alot of, but it is becoming more common!!). So, I have a tiny collection.
Then I went to my guild meeting.
One of the members has given a challenge to the group. A one-coloured quilt. NO other colour allowed. Only your choosen colour. And it is to be done completly by June - our year end party meeting. I wounderd what I would do?? My guild blks are already being done in one colour (blue) but it has alot of other colours throught out it, so that is out. Hmmmm, then it hits me!! Helllllooooo!!! Do the square quilt!! why not!?!? Not in the browns (some of my fabrics already have other colours in them), but in Blues!!! Do I have enough of a variety??? I had won a fun bingo game a couple years ago, and I got alot of FQ's as the prize!! Which counts for most of my stash!! And so I pulled out my plastic containers of my FQ's (trying to organize them!! good luck with that!! lol!!) and I have blues!! Dark blues, light blues, medium blues and blues in between!!! Whoooo Hoooo!!! I am in the challage!! And I will do it while working on the projects I want done!!! This 'new' quilt will be sewn as leader/enders while I work on my regular projects!!! Oh yeah!!! I rock!!!!! AND, I just might throw in the brown one while I'm at it - two for the time of one, or should I say, three, considering they will be done between the 'real' quilts!!!!
So, this is my weeks design wall plan. Goose will be done!!! D9P will have a border, and my challenge quilt will be worked on!
Excellant!!! (and once I learn to make beans from scratch - tried a recipe yesterday, and the beans are a little 'stiff'!! lol!! I will have this domestic stuff licked!! Rule #1, don't rush the soaking time!!) So, I will be trying my recipe again, and my family will be able to eat while I work on my quilting goals so my design wall will have something new to show next week!!!!
bye!!

Design Wall Monday!!

It has been awhile since I have been sewing - but I did yesterday - and with my 20 minute a day goal, I am now working on August's times!!! I realized yesterday, I have not sewn for 4 weeks!!! I got all caught up in July, and stopped sewing....... ahhhhhhh!! So, all the days in July have been crossed off (yes, I have a '20' written on every day on my calender - so when I have sewn for the goal of the 20 minutes I cross it off. I now have all the days done for July - that is good. So, before Sept starts, I plan on having all of the August ones caught right up!!! Start Sept. with no backlog - start fresh!!)

I have some exciting news!! Last night, before I shut my computer off, I always check my email. Well, I got this email:

Hey Brenda!
You're name was just chosen as the winner of the give away on Incredible Women this week! We'll send the jewelry that Kristin made out to you this week. Thanks so much for being a follower of the blog and for commenting. (originally, the set included earrings, a bracelet, and a necklace, but Kristin was sick this week and was only able to do the earrings and matching bracelet. I hope that's ok. It's a beautiful set - antique silver, amethyst colored beads and dragonflies!)Can you please email me your address and I'll get that into the mail to you. Thanks again, and CONGRATULATIONS!-Kara

I was shocked!!!!

If you have never been to this site you have to check it out!! I really enjoy reading/hearing about people who have kept it together when things go bad - and how they manage to...... well, manage. I admire people who respond and not react. Me, I react, then wish I would have responded instead. I am working on this -working on remembering to, just think before I go off the handle!!

And this is a new blog, but I love that she is looking for 'real' woman. I was so surprised last night. I honestly didn't know what to say..... I usually don't comment on blogs that are having give-aways, and I don't usually go check blogs with give aways - well, that's a lie, I go and check it out, but rarely comment. I like to visit when it's just a visit - see what is going on, what they are up to, intereting points of view, things that make me laugh. I don't need a gift to make me come visist,\. If I like the site - I am going to come anyway!!

So this was a real surprise. I thought that the time frame had passed, so I was 'safe'!! Kidding, I just posted what I thought. But here is question: do dragonflies have any 'meaning'??? The reason I ask is, when I was a kid, my aunt gave me a dragonfly pin. My daugher a couple years ago gave me dragonfly ornament, and now this jewerly has dragonflies on it!! I love dragonflies. As a kid I would always try to catch one - never did!! They are so pretty, at least I think they are.

Well, lets talk about my design wall!!! When I left the sewing room, I was starting to put together 'Twilight'. I thought maybe I had missed some of the last "how-to's", but I am not worring about that now. I have the pic of how it's supposed to go together, and I am working it like that. This quilt, was not the one I had picked to do when Planet Patchowork said 'choose your Favorite' - I found this one to busy. Well, I still think it is, but I did it. On my own time frame!! I knew that I wanted a 'special' background fabric. I wanted it black, but not just plain ol' blk and when I found this suff at a close out sale - I had to have it!!! And that is when 'twilight' was born!!!

It's all stars and I thought of outer-space, so this is my version of flying to the moon, or mars, or beyond........ Never, Never Land!!!

So, this is on my Design Wall - and soon to be on my 'tops' pile!!!!

Not a great pic - most of the quilt is missing, but my room is small, and I couldn't fit it all into the frame!! But this is a good intication of what it will look like - busy, busy, busy!!! But - I do like it. I even have the two rows that are sewn together draped over the top of this 'wall', just so I could fit all the pieces of the quilt top on there to get a view of where everything should fit, and since I have so many colours in it, so that the colours are spread out and not all grouped together!!

yup want to see this one put together, and then get onto some other things that I want to get to the finish line!!! Next Monday will be a different project!! No more month off here - just a month of working 20 minutes plus!!!! to get it all done!!

Now to see what you have all been up to over a Judy's............ bye!!

I am back from the movie!!!

Well, if you want to have a few laughs and just enjoy yourself, go see Julie & Julia!!! I loved it!!! It is not the book redone - it is, not better, but perfect!!! I really enjoyed the book, and was glad it was different from it. It is funny!! I came home and wrote this down as a new list on my white board, to remind myself and anyone else who cares, to me this is a DVD to get!!!
And, watching the trailers, I have added 4 more movies on my list of movies I want to see!!!

I am so glad I started this list again. I started to keep track years ago when the kids where young and I didn't remember the movies I thought I would like to see. So I started to keep track and write them down!! Some of the movies I have written on it right now, I have not seen yet in the rental place or heard about again!!! I still want to see them, but I guess I'll to wait till they just show up in my life - like "The Visitor" did!! While in Kelowna, I kept picking this movie up from the sale rack, not sure why, but I did buy it. When I told my daughter the movies I had bought, she said, "Well, that one is on your list!!" And, I/we really enjoyed it!! If I hadn't written it down, would I have picked it up subconsiously??? Doubt it!! So, I love my list!!

And here is the neighbors dog that I told you about. She is now tied up on a chain the lengh of a leash...... at least she can get into her dog house. I hope they have water for her... anyways!!!! I have a picture or two of her to show you. She is the only dog that I have ever wanted that belonged to someone else..... and they are moving soon.......I am so scared for her. If this is how they look after her here - what will they do to her out where no one can see?? And with winter coming.......... Okay, enough. It is just making my tummy tighten. I will show you pics of this beautiful puppy who brings me such joy. We all love her - even my two dogs!! And the cat doesn't mind her either. I wish they would ask me to take her..... I would, without hesitation!!

Here is Lexi!!!!

More Quilt Show!

Okay, here are the rest of the pics I took - oh so long ago!! I have been spending alot of time in the great outdoors, and have only come in when I've had too. I got an email from a friend asking if I'm okay??? So, I thought I would come and let you all know I am just being out in the sun as much as I can - and it's will be time soon where it will be to cold to be out there laying around or playing in the flowers, so don't worry 'bout me. I am just enjoying the season!!

Here is some insperation if, like me, you have not been sewing!!

This is a memory quilt -
I have the story below the quilt. what do with jerseys??
Here's an idea:

Love these humming birds - we might do a colorwash class this year in my guild. Beautiful!!
Above is the quilt, the next one shows the matching pillow!!

Like I said, I have not been in my sewing room - so Shannon, I have not moved much on the Mystery quilt we are both supposed to
be working on..... I will get at it if it keeps being cool outside, and after reading what you've done, I am way behind!!!! lol!!! Here is to beautiful days, ripe tomatoes!! I have alread eaten 3 ripe yellow tomaotoes off the plant I won this spring, oh it's sooooooo good to eat off the vine tomatoes!! I didn't even make 'em into a sandwich, I just cut them up and savored them!!!
Have a great week!! ~ I sure hope too!!!

Stash Busting week 27

Report time!!
Okay!!
Stash - 179 1/2 yrds
Old Stash counted - (will I ever get back to counting it!!!) lol! - 0
Fabric added - 1 1/4 yrd (friend gave me halloween stuff she didn't want!)
F.A.Y.T.D. - 19 1/4 yrds
Fab. used. - still at zero. I will have some numbers to show really soon though...
(yeah, and free beer tomorrow at your favorite pub!!!)

and my new stash total is as of today!!! drum roll please!!! 180 3/4 yrds!!!!

And here is the Halloween fabric she gave me!! I think a pillow case would work - or even another fabric bowl!! the only bowl I made (and loved doing it!! is out of halloween stuff!!!

And here are the last two big "Twilight" blks!! this project is on it's last legs!! I could start to put it together now - I still have those little friendship stars to do, but I have enough to at least start..... but I will make more, then start to put it up on the wall!!! I am so bloody excited to be getting to the end of these projects I have bee doing in bits and peices!!! that 20 min a day sewing is HUGE!! for me!!! Even on the days that I can only get that much time to sew, it really helps - like these blks - it was 3 days to do it, but I did it and that is what counts!! Here they are:

I thought that I would like the blue/purple pink the best, but you know what, I like the green and pink a bit more!!! I think because the blue blends into the background, kinda fades a bit (but I do like that effect too - especially when everyone is up and together......) the pink just pops off the blk!!

Ahhh, they are done!!! YEAH!!!!

Next I am going to show you the start to the Bonnie Hunter mystery in the Quiltmakers magazine. With two of my work-as-you-go projects now amost done, I had to fill in the empty spaces.....lol!!

I have used up all my leader/enders just before this project came out!! And I do want it done in Christmas stuff - and looking at this bright/dull.... I have my doubts... but, I am not going to question it!! It's a mystery, and it will be just fine!!! And fun to do, so once I get more blks made up to sew together, it won't look so - weird I guess......

Onto the Quilt Show!!!

this is my friends quilt - she is a brand new quilter - and she is sewing up a storm!! Always asking us to do classes and loves the whole process. She actually quilted this one herself!!!! she is having a blast with her new 'hobby'!! Obsession is more like it, but it has helped her kick the smoking habit!! So hey, whatever it takes - go Girl!!!!

Bargello is on my list to do - and I will!!! I love 'em. A heart one though??? I am not sure. It sure is pretty though, and I do like it...... I just don't know. but I love 'em!!!!

This quilt just took my breath away, and I told the lady who made it, if she was ever going to consider getting rid of it, please think of me!! Beautiful!! And all made out of batik leader and enders!!! Absoulty gorgeous!!!!!!!!!

And this one hung on the back wall, center under a basketball hooo!!! It was a nice 'picture' to have hanging on the wall!!!

For a group of 15-20 people, and not everyone 'helped' - it was a very succeful show. Everyone has such a differnt eye, such diverse skills and such beauty. I didn't pick and choose my pics, I just walked down the line's and took a pic of each one as I passed, thinking I would be getting them all. Some of the ones I didn't get were stunning. And some just cute for the size of them!!! I loved being there all three days, and the people were so nice - from all over!!! Great time.

I have more pics for later!!! Stay tuned!!!

The Quilt Show is Over!!

I have been missing I see!! I didn't realize it had been so long till I looked at the date and went "oh!"!! Well, it's been an eventful week. My guild has just finished our first quilt show!! This was something I was not really interested in doing, so I didn't do anything for it - but, I am not going to be such a spoiled sport next time - and if your group of people are doing something - get in there and help!!! ;-)!!

I am going to show you some pics of the show. This in only a few - we had almost 200 quilts and I only got about 35 pics - so some of the ones I really liked I thought I would get after the place emptied. I thought the clean up was tomorrow!! That's what happens when you are not helping!!!! So, as soon as it was over, the quilts started to come down!! My fault - so it's kinds funny, but here are some of the show and I will show some more tomorrow!!!

This is a Stacked Posie Quilt.

It was made out of roost fabric!! Here is
a close up of one of the blks!!! To much fun!!!

These are the "Fun and Done" pattern.

Same pattern, but they look so differnt!!

And this was made with a cross stich saying on the top. I like it. So, I did a close up of the saying!

And with that, I am off to do my 20 minute of sewing!! I am only 27 days behind, so I am trying to stay current and then do some catch up !! I figure - new month, get back in the habit of the 20 minutes of sewing!! Consistancy is key. When I look at all the tops I've got completed, I am amazed!!! WOW!! Really???? Get back in that room and sew girl!!! Next year is finisishing!!! I have a quilt show to prepare for!!!!!!

(and boy do I have project ideas for that!!!!! uh 0h!! I thought I started alot of things before!!! Wait till I see how many I finish!!!! yeeee haw!!!!!!! I am going to haveing some fun now!! - OH!!! I didn't tell you! ;-( I was doing my 20 minutes of sewing the other day - turned on my machine and put my foot on the pedal....... it made about 3 stiches, then this AWFUL grinding noise and - it shut itself off!!!!!!! I can not get it to turn back on, it's dead!!! I just sat there for a minute, collecting my thoughts and went 'hmmmm.....' It is going into the Dr. on Monday and I won't have it back for a couple of weeks I am told. The fixer-upper-guy thinks I just blew a fuse, but it was sure a shock!!!! So, I am working on my baby machine - Janome Gem - the one I take to classes till I get the ol' girl back.

So that been my weeks off!! lol!! I will post more pics tomorrow!! night!!

June 15 - What is on My Design Wall today?

Well, I have not done my 'Stash Report' this week, and I should have considering I have bought fabric. I will make sure to report next week. But the - "What is Your Design Wall" made me want to post this!! I am working on my D9P - and this is where I stopped yesterday. Most of the blks are sewn, and once I have cut them all size, I will sew them together.

Here is the progress so far on my Disappering 9 Patch!!

Saturday, June 13, 2009

I am starting a Disappearing Patch!!

I have literally fallen in love with Northcott's
"Stonehenge" fabrics. That is the one I had to have a big chunk of when I first saw it!!! Well, when you buy a charm pack, you get a taste of all 36 colours!!
I bought two packs - and made myself 8, 9-patches out of it. I decided that was not enough for decent throw for my couch, so today I have come home with 2 more charm packs!! And after these are made into 9 patches, I am going to make them disappear!!!
There was no rhyme or reason to why I put the colors where they went, I just put two together and let them go where they wanted. They all go together so well, and it does not matter who goes where 'cause they are all going to be mixed up anyway!!!
I think it is going to be so pretty!!
So, this is my newest project!! Don't ask how I am doing with the other ones!! This was not supposed to jump to the front of the line - but I just had to see them all done up.
And if I can find a table, I am taking my little machine outside and I am also going to start sewing on Bonnie Hunters "Christmas Lights" mystery quilt that she has in the Quiltmaker July/August '09 magazine that is out there right now!!!
I am using my big machine for the 9 patch, and I have heard you shouldn't mix up machines when you are sewing things, they each have their own personal 1/4" and sometimes don't play well with each other. I also do not want my Stonehedge fabrics outside - they could get dirty!!! Or loose one somehow!!! ;-)
But a mystery?? Who's gonna know!!
Hmmm, I shouldn't say 'sew' (but it could happen!!) I need to do some cutting first, and that's as easy to do outside as in - And I have spent way to much time in the house this year - I am going out to do my crafting!! Here is to the hot sunny weather that I love. And because it's been so dry, I've been watering a little tree in the park across the road that I have decided to adopt with this drought we are going through!! We need some rain desperatly, but I sure do love the hot days....... Summer is amost here - no more frost!!! Please!?!?!!! ;-) lol!

Come see my house!!

I just though I would show you a picture of my house - the before and after shots.
This one, with the grass and basketball hoop, is before...... Hubby wanted a place to park his 5th wheel, so he created the 'after' picture.
He saw these photo's a couple weeks ago, and even though he didn't say it, I think he wished he had not done this to the yard. But done is done, and life goes on.
I have my 'garden' in pots all along the front of the house and some I have put onto the wood on the new driveway. This is where I sit when I am in the sun. The backyard, which needs to have the grade fixed because everything is sloped towards the house, has no grass. So, out here is where I am staying till we fix the grade and build a deck!!
I have been playing in the sun, since we finally got some!! I have a container garden going outside, that has had to come in because of frost warning, if you can believe that!! It's wierd that it's hot and sunny during the day, and frost warning's at night?!? Oh, well, my plants have come through okay, but the corn I planted does have some yellow on it's leaves so.......

I have also been cooking!! Hubby is working from home, so I have been trying to make sure he has good lunches, and nice stuff for dinner. He normally works away from home, so this is nice. One recipe I have just found and make today is 'Stuffed Beef and Cheddar Burgers'. I put them together and they are right now freezing to use at a later date. Especially with it being summer, I love having burgers in the freezer to pull out and BBQ later. I also like having meals in the feezer for when I forget to think about dinner and suddenly it's supper time!!!

I have had my sister come and visit for a couple days. It was nice. We have not had time to just hang out for - well, forever. I used to live with her when I was 18. So this visit was very nice. Brought back memories and had some good laughs!! We will be doing it again, very soon!!

And the stray kitty is still here. I guess we are okay to have as pets, so he'll stick around. He has caught mice, which I like and unfortunatly, birds too. Only one that I know of, but still...... He is actually a good cat. He has not used my flower beds as a litter box or got into things he shouldn't....... hmmmm..... I like that!!

So, that is what I have been up to. And I have not been reading blogs or blogging so I have some catching up to do!! Since I think rain in the forcast, if I am not sewing, which I am planning on doing, (since I have not been!!!) I will be catching up with all my friends and taking pics of my sewing room so you can see how small it is. But I am not complaining!!! I am not in the basement anymore and I have a TV!!! Talk to you all soon!!! And have a great weekend!!
